Cannes May 18, 2014—IFC Midnight has acquired the U.S rights to The Vicious Brothers’ (Grave Encounters) hot Tribeca sci-fi horror film EXTRATERRESTRIAL from Vicarious Entertainment, Twin Engine Films and Buffalo Films. The film spurred a bidding war after its Tribeca premiere with bidders battling for the title.

Emma Higgings – DIRECTOR

Emma Higgins Director Reel from Emma Higgins on Vimeo.

Hailing from Vancouver, Canada, Emma developed her love for film at a young age working on film sets around the city. Taking about any job she could that would get her around a camera, she starting learning everything she could about filmmaking and shooting her own short films in her free time. She is currently based in Vancouver where she works full time directing, writing and editing. She would one day like to direct features that she has written.

EXTRATERRESTRIAL, written by The Vicious Brothers (Grave Encounters, Grave Encounters 2), has finished shooting and is now in post-production.

The Visitors stars Brittany Allen, Freddie Stroma, Jesse Moss, Melanie Papalia, Anja Savcic with Gil Bellows and Michael Ironside.

The film tells the story of a group of college friends who go to a secluded cabin in the woods. As the night is winding down, they notice a fireball tear through the sky. The kids go to the crash site and discover the wreckage of an unidentified flying object. Frightened, they head back to the safety of their cabin only to realize that they are now being tracked down, taken out one by one..

The movie marks The Vicious Brothers’ third feature after the low budget Grave Encounters did over $5 million in theaters in 9 countries alone, and over $2 million on VOD in North America. The success of the first installment lead to a sequel, written by The Vicious Brothers, that did $8 million in theaters in about 12 countries.

Shock Till You Drop has your exclusive first look at the trailer for Grave Encounters 2, the sequel to last year’s supernatural thriller, Grave Encounters, directed by The Vicious Brothers.

The follow-up is being released nationwide on VOD October 2nd, with a theatrical release and midnight screenings beginning on October 12th. As we told you earlier when this project was first announced, the sequel is taking a meta approach and follows characters who have seen the first film. John Poliquin is making his feature directorial debut.

Synopsis: Grave Encounters was a found-footage horror phenomenon that many people believed was just a movie. Film student Alex Wright is out to prove them wrong in Grave Encounters 2. Alex is as obsessed with the first film as the 20 million people who viewed its viral trailer on YouTube. While he and his friends research the events and visit the real psychiatric hospital depicted in the original film, they find themselves face-to-face with unspeakable evil, banking on the hope that their knowledge of the original film will help them survive the sequel.

In 2011, GRAVE ENCOUNTERS was a found-footage horror phenomenon from the Vicious Brothers, with a trailer garnering over 20 million views on YouTube. Many people believed it was just a movie. They were wrong, and film student Alex Wright is out to prove it in GRAVE ENCOUNTERS 2.

While researching the events depicted in the original film and the subsequent disappearance of its lead ”actor” Sean Rogerson, Alex Wright received a bizarre video from a mysterious blogger named “DeathAwaits666.” Appearing to show Rogerson still alive but trapped inside the Collingwood Psychiatric Hospital from GRAVE ENCOUNTERS, Alex and his friends agree to meet the blogger at the infamous hospital in hopes of learning what really happened. To their horror, they quickly find themselves face-to-face with unspeakable evil. Realizing that they must be smarter and faster than Rogerson and his crew to avoid suffering the same fate, they use their knowledge of the original film to do whatever it takes to survive.

Grave Encounters 2 will be available nationwide on demand October 2nd with a theatrical roll out in October in the USA.

We’ve seen plenty of “found footage” movies, but there’s something very special about the independent film Grave Encounters. Set during the filming of a TV show/paranormal investigation, this movie has a few terrifying moments that’ll scare even the most jaded.

One of the dozens of films we brought you the first word about out of this year’s AFM, the new found footage fright fest Grave Encounters, has just made its promotional trailer debut, and of course we have it for you right here!

The film is directed by a team known only right now as The Vicious Brothers, and it stars Sean Rogerson, Merwin Mondesir, Ashleigh Gryzko, Mackenzie Gray and Juan Riedinger.

I recently ran across this trailer for GRAVE ENCOUNTERS. It is another entry into the “found footage” sub-genre of Horror films. These films are really getting popular again thanks to the great success of the PARANORMAL ACTIVITY films. While you might just think this is a cheap knockoff of the PA films, this actually looks like it could be really good and even scarier than the PA films. Here is the basic plot from the films official website:

LANCE PRESTON (Sean Rogerson) and the crew of “Grave Encounters”, a ghost-hunting reality television show, are shooting an episode inside the abandoned Collingwood Psychiatric Hospital, where unexplained phenomena has been reported for years.
All in the name of good television, they voluntarily lock themselves inside the building for the night and begin a paranormal investigation, capturing everything on camera.
They quickly realize that the building is more than just haunted – it is alive – and it has no intention of ever letting them leave. They find themselves lost in a labyrinth maze of endless hallways and corridors, terrorized by the ghosts of the former patients.
They soon begin to question their own sanity, slipping deeper and deeper into the depths of madness, ultimately discovering the truth behind the hospital’s dark past… and taping what will be their final episode.

Taking cues from films like Paranormal Activity and The Blair Witch Project comes a new cinema verite ghost flick, Grave Encounters, which comes from directors simply known as “The Vicious Brothers”. I know a lot of you feel that this found footage subgenre is getting kind of tiring, but I’m kind of a sucker for it. Starring Sean Rogerson, Merwin Mondesir, Ashleigh Gryzko, Mackenzie Gray and Juan Riedinge, inside you’ll find the trailer debut for the Arclight production. Personally, I think it looks pretty awesome.
